101 contraddictions in the Bible

Some atheists had some fun in finding some contraddictions in the Holy Book. Of course  most of them are not so relevant (discrepancies in numbers…).

But – in any case – for those who believe literally in this book…

Dio manda la peste (1Cronache 21:12,14)

fra tre anni di carestia, tre mesi di fuga per te di fronte ai tuoi avversari, sotto l’incubo della spada dei tuoi nemici, e tre giorni della spada del Signore con la peste che si diffonde sul paese e l’angelo del Signore che porta lo sterminio in tutto il territorio di Israele. Ora decidi che cosa io debba riferire a chi mi ha inviato».
Così il Signore mandò la peste in Israele; morirono settantamila Israeliti.

Either three years’ famine; or three months to be destroyed before thy foes, while that the sword of thine enemies overtaketh thee; or else three days the sword of the LORD, even the pestilence, in the land, and the angel of the LORD destroying throughout all the coasts of Israel…
So the LORD sent pestilence upon Israel: and there fell of Israel seventy thousand men.” (I Chronicles 21:12 and 14)

David made an offense against God in taking a census of the people. It’s difficult to understand what was wrong, but it’s even more difficult to understand why God didn’t punished David alone.

Changing religion (Numbers 253:4)

Israele aderì al culto di Baal-Peor e l’ira del Signore si accese contro Israele.
Il Signore disse a Mosè: «Prendi tutti i capi del popolo e fa’ appendere al palo i colpevoli, davanti al Signore, al sole, perché l’ira ardente del Signore si allontani da Israele».

And Israel joined himself unto Baalpeor: and the anger of the Lord was kindled against Israel.
And the Lord said unto Moses, ‘Take all the heads of the people and hang them up before the Lord against the sun, that the fierce anger of the Lord may be turned away from Israel.

Changing religion can be dangerous. They must die, simple.

1Chronicles 20:3

And he brought out the people that were in it, and cut them with saws, and with harrows of iron, and with axes…Ne fece uscire anche gli abitanti, che destinò ai lavori con seghe, picconi di ferro e asce. In previous chapters David killed 22,000 Syrians, and Abishai killed 18,000 Edomites. No opposition of any kind against this shame.
Here in 20:3 David, counted as a great leader of the Israelites, slaughtering captives after the cessation of hostilities. From what high moral ground should we admire this action?

Apprendiamo dai capitoli 17-19 che Davide uccise 22000 Siriani, senza alcun segno di sdegno contro questo scempio. Ecco adesso Davide che massacra i figli di Ammon… vedi anche 1Samuele 15:33; 1Cronache 20:3; Ebrei 11:37

Isaiah 21:9

“And, behold, here cometh a chariot of men, with a couple of horsemen.
And he answered and said:
Babylon is fallen, is fallen!
And all the graven images of her gods he hath broken unto the ground.”

Ed ecco venire un carro con un uomo e due cavalli.
Quello gridava:
“Caduta, caduta è Babilonia!
E tutte le immagini scolpite dei loro dèi sono frantumate al suolo”.

In the past this part of the Bible became the justification for the Crusaders (12th century), that slaughtered or tortured anyone who stood in their way. Even to day governments and religious leaders can judge a war as moral. In the Gulf War, for example, an F-16 bomber had “Isaiah 21:9″ written on its bombs.

Nel passato questo brano biblico ha giustificato le Crociate, i cui cavalieri hanno distrutto e torturato ciò che li ostacolava. Anche oggi c’è chi – in virtù della religione – arriva a definire morale una guerra. Durante la guerra del Golfo, un bombardiere F-16 aveva scritto su una sua bomba “Isaia 21:9″.
